Common Areas of Energy Loss
There are many areas of your home that may not be properly insulated. With the proper installation of our Polar
Foam 7300 closed cell spray foam, we can substantially improve your homes efficiency. Here
are a couple of examples.
* Additions without basements/ Crawlspaces
Any part
of your dwelling without a basement is going to be exposed to extreme
cold and damp. Often these are main floor kitchens, dens, offices
and family rooms at either the front of back of the building. Indicators
to heat loss can be cold floors, damp feeling to the floor, low drafts,
peeling paint, cracks and/or gaps near the baseboards or in the floor
itself (due to expansion and contraction). Often
there is insulation in place which has become ineffective due to moisture,
animals, settling or age.
* Basements
40%-60% of heat lost
in your home can be attributed to insufficient insulation in your basement. Not
only does this mean a cold and unusable basement space with high energy
loss, but it also affects the comfort of the living areas above. By properly
insulating the basement walls and headers, your floors will be warmer
on the main floor and your furnace will be working less to achieve and
maintain a comfortable temperature.
*Porch overhangs
This is the room or area in the house
which sits atop the porch roof. The porch overhang’s elevation
and open exposure make it vulnerable to cold and wind. Indicators
to heat loss in this area are cold floors, cold walls, low drafts, peeling
paint, cracks and/or gaps near the baseboards or in the floor itself
(due to expansion and contraction) and the inability to maintain a constant
temperature, regardless of the thermostat setting. Frequently there
is no insulation under the floor or in the porch roof, or there is insulation
in place which has become ineffective due to moisture, animals, settling
or age.
*Rooms situated above garages
The problems that present
themselves here are similar in nature to porch overhangs. Often
there is little or no insulation between the bedroom floor and the garage
ceiling. Because garages are most often non-heated and non-insulated
they suck the warm air out from the surrounding rooms (convection). Indicators
to heat loss in this area are cold floors, cold walls, low drafts, peeling
paint, cracks and/or gaps near the baseboards or in the floor itself
(due to expansion and contraction) and the inability to maintain a constant
temperature, regardless of the thermostat setting.
Spray foam insulation professionally applied in problem areas can
- significantly reduce your heating costs
- increase the comfort of your home
- reduce greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to global warming
So why not take action! You’ll benefit, and so will the planet. Now that’s climate change – in a good way.
